Hockey Director
Bryan Smith has been a passionate and dedicated pupil in the world of all things hockey since he laced up his skates at the age of four in the Cleveland area. Growing up in Olmsted Falls, Bryan honed his skills playing youth hockey in the CSHL and represented the Bulldogs during his freshman and sophomore years of Highschool. Seeking greater challenges and opportunities, he was accepted into The Pursuit of Excellence Hockey Academy in British Columbia, Canada, at the age of 15. There, under the leadership of David Roy and alongside renowned NHL players, coaches, and referees, Bryan gained a comprehensive understanding and deep appreciation for the sport. Bryan’s playing career expanded across junior hockey teams in North America, culminating in a championship-winning season with the Wooster Oilers. He later played for John Carroll University before settling back in Wooster to raise his family. Bryan met his wife, Kendra, while playing hockey in Wooster. They have been married since 2012 and currently have 3 children Keagan (12), Kylie (11), and Kaspian (3).
Bryan’s love for hockey extends beyond the ice and into the coaching realm. He began his instructing career with Playmaker Hockey Schools under figure skating gold medalist Jeff Marshal. David Roy, recognizing Bryan's talent and commitment, invited him to coach at the prestigious Edge of Excellence camps in Kelowna, B.C., Winnipeg, MB, and Vorhees, NJ. Over the years, Bryan has coached players ranging from U8 to Highschool and Junior levels, demonstrating his versatility and dedication to player development. A cornerstone of Bryan’s coaching journey has been his contributions in the Wooster Hockey market, where he has held various roles, including multiple head coaching positions and serving as Hockey Director. At the youth level Bryan has also coached for Fritsche’s Hockey Academy and The North Olmsted Hockey Club. He has also dedicated time to growing the girls game coaching the Westside Sirens. He is currently a level 5 coach through USA Hockey and has completed all ADM training modules and remains committed to continuous learning, always seeking additional resources to enhance his knowledge and coaching methods.
Bryan’s passion has turned him into somewhat of a rink rat. He has professional experience as an Operations Manager, working in multiple facilities in the Cleveland area. He is proficient with building systems, Ice Resurfacer operation and repair, ice maintenance, and has received a professional designation of Certified Ice Technician through the US Rinks Association. Bryan’s unwavering dedication to fostering young athletes exemplifies his enduring love for the sport and its culture. Through his efforts, he continues to inspire the next generation of players to thrive both on and off the ice.
